Hugh Bigod – powerful Earl of Norfolk who helped to curb the excesses of monarchy

Hugh Bigod was the last Bigod Earl of Norfolk. His family had held the title for several generations and were leading Barons at the Norman Court. They were often in rebellion from their mighty castles at Bungay and Framlingham.
